Mackintosh hand-made rainwear is a brand of modern heritage built on true craftsmanship and a two hundred year history.

In 1823, Charles Macintosh (without the “k”) developed the process of spreading rubber onto cotton to create the world’s first formal waterproof fabric, signaling the arrival of the original Mackintosh coat.

Today, Mackintosh is a firmly established global brand that combines updated technology with traditional techniques to create the modern-day ‘Mac’. Based in Cumbernauld, Scotland, every expert coat maker undertakes a three-year apprenticeship to ensure that they can construct outerwear to Mackintosh’s unique specifications.

Not surprisingly, Mackintosh enjoys a cult status in Japan. Tokyo is also the location of the Mackintosh and Globe-Trotter British Luxury concept store, fittingly titled 'Vulcanize'. Opened in the fashionable Aoyama district in October 2002, the success of Vulcanize led to the launch of a second store in the financial Marunouchi district in March 2005 and a third opening in Nu-Chayamiya, Osaka October 2005.

For the UK, the Mackintosh flagship store in London's Burlington Arcade opened in September of 2004 followed by the launch of the Bespoke Lounge in October 2005. Available by appointment only and exclusively at the flagship Burlington Arcade store, Mackintosh offers Bespoke Clients 379 detail combinations, featuring up to 69 cloths and a choice of 53 detachable linings.
